About

What Is Grace House?

Grace House Nor Cal is a faith-based recovery program in Carmichael, California. We have been established in our community for multiple years and are a go-to recovery resource for various agencies throughout the greater Sacramento area. Our program currently consists of a men’s house, a woman’s house, and a men’s transitional home. We are a private pay program meaning we do not accept Medi-Cal or insurance. We work with partner agencies for resident placement and have a well-established relationship with the court system for multiple counties throughout the state. Our monthly rent is $700.00 a month. We are a three-month, six-month, nine-month, year-long program with options for men to move into our transitional house once they complete the requirements at our main home. Drugs are the leading cause of most crimes, and our mission is to see our streets safe once again, to see families restored, and to give hope to the homeless.

Why choose Grace House?

While the rewards for recovery are vast, we have a philosophy that we help our residents realize, and that is a four-step process that consists of the following pillars of recovery. First, we feel that the number one thing our residents gain is self-forgiveness. They are forgiving themselves for all the pain and misery they cause their families and themselves while in their addiction. We believe that God’s timing works to perfection every time by letting things happen in his time and not forcing things to happen before we are ready for them. They are becoming a giver and not a taker. Addiction steals more than a person. It steals love, joy, affection, peace, and harmony. They are giving self, encouragement, and all the good things they deserve to experience. And last but not least is the pillar of restoration which happens when they work through the first three pillars. Families and friends, husbands and wives, children and parents.

Grace House has a fantastic success rate that is above average. We pride ourselves in being a community, and most of our past residents stay connected with us and continue to further their recovery in many different ways after graduation. Sometimes this might look like coming back and teaching some of our classes or sitting in on those classes being taught, showing up to our community outreaches, and sponsoring current residents. We are very proud of our successes and look forward to continuing to serve our community the best way we know how.

What does a day in the life of a Grace House resident look like?

Our residents have a set daily schedule that includes narcotics anonymous and alcoholics anonymous meetings, study groups, peer support groups, life skills groups, bible studies, morning inspiration, weekly church, and anger management. These things are listed on a daily schedule posted on an announcement board outside the office so residents know precisely what is going on at any given time within or program. The schedule is read off every morning during our morning inspiration group by staff. In addition, residents are required and expected to shower daily, complete daily chores, and do a weekly deep clean of the house.

Residents are required to keep all appointments, be it medical, dental, court, probation, department of human services, mental health, and social security. All appointments are to be brought up and put on our business list at the house meeting we hold on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

We have a two-week blackout from all electronics, including cell phones and the internet, and a 30-day blackout where residents are only allowed to go out escorted by staff, case managers, or support of senior residents and never out anywhere by themselves. After their 30-day blackout, residents must either look for work or attend school. We are all about helping our residents become better versions of themselves by putting their best foot forward when it comes to every aspect of their lives.

In addition to basic rules, residents have a nightly curfew and can earn weekend passes which build up over time. These time frames consist of 3, 6, 9, and 12-hour passes to take themselves to meetings and spend time with family. We are all about family reunification here at Grace House and work hard to help residents regain their family units.

We are a pillar in the community and do many outreach events throught the week. Some are planned such as our weekly feeding of our unhoused friends, and our monthly senior breakfast. Other ways we help the community might look like helping out in the community such as helping a neighbor with yard work, moving, etc. We help with community events and we are always willing and grateful to help out when we can.
